So this nurse of the street had a busy Easter. It was planned that my friend and future nurse Lisa Heinlein and I would go out today to the camps and to meet with a church group that does a BBQ and provides clothes to the homeless the 4th Sunday of the month at a local park. Received a call early from Deb with the church group advising she had been setting up the event and had already spoken to a young women who she was concerned about.
When we arrived we were directed to a young women we had known for a number of months and had followed in clinic. She had a bicycle accident and had pelvic pain and bleeding. After doing an assessment it was clear she needed to be seen in the emergency room so transportation was arranged and she was taken to the hospital. Deb and her daughter Michaela stayed with her for support.
Coming into care can be very traumatic for our folks and having support can make a big difference in their care and the outcome of that care. She was admitted and we were able to calm her enough for testing. When we left she had eaten for the first time in several days and was sleeping peacefully. We will continue to follow her through her hospital stay.
