This nurse of the street was out on rounds with Sarah Johnson MS1 UC Davis School of Medicine. Spent the afternoon traveling around the community showing Sarah the areas our homeless live in and orienting her to the community, the history of the homeless here and the services that are provided.
Now that the high water is going down to more normal levels a number of the camps have moved. We also were told that law enforcement has warned/moved others. One person said to be “less visible.” We did follow up with some that we follow on a regular basis. It is already clear with the change in seasons that their needs are changing. With standing water the mosquitoes are already present along with tics and other insects. The poison oak is clearly present. So our folks will need insect repellent, tic removal kits, sunblock and fresh bottled water.
We gave an update in one camp on the status of the young women we had to take into the hospital last week. Her condition is improving and they are looking at programs and housing options for her. Most in the camps were doing pretty well. It was a good day out.
